Review: Love is a Peculiar Type of Thing

Love is a Peculiar Type of Thing, by Box Brown, 2009, 96 pages, $10

I liked this. It's an autobiographical comic that's jumped from the web to print and is due out in June.

Philadelphia creator Box Brown's Xeric award-winning book is contemplative and hopeful, and feels like it was written by a man who feels good about life. For that reason, it differs from many autobiographical comics that seem like the creator is about to jump off a cliff.

It's not that Brown does not portray strife and drama, it's just that all that bad stuff happened in the past and Brown has overcome it. The art is not exactly groundbreaking, but reading the book was an enjoyable experience and made me look forward to his next work.

You can read comics by Brown at his website and at Top Shelf 2.0.

Here is information on how you can order the book.
